Located in the eastern part of Tuscany, Arezzo and its territory is surrounded by the Appennini mountain range, stretching along the valleys of Casentino, Valdarno, Val Tiberina e Val di Chiana. Each area shows a different landscape made of natural beauties that merge with an historical heritage and artistic treasures. The valley of Casentino, surmounted by high reliefs, is also covered with ancient forests. Along the border of Appennino Tosco-Emiliano is the National Park of Casentino with the forests of Monte Falterona and Campigna, among steep cliffs and dense vegetation and where two importants places of worship can be found: the Sanctuary of La Verna and the Monastery of Camaldoli friars.
The Valdarno is full of surprising landscapes, dominated by astonishing ledges of yellowish colour and made of clay, mud and sand that raise creating breath-taking sceneries.
A highly emotional landscape is that of Val di Chiana: a sequence of elevations, hills and valleys dotted with precious artistic villages such as Monte San Savino, Lucignano and Cortona.
By the border, the Valley of Tevere is a land of untouched areas with castles, parish churches, medieval towns like Anghiari, Caprese Michelangelo, Sansepolcro. Still there are unexpected sceneries awaiting, among the forests of Pratomagno and several natural areas of great interest.
Arezzo was home town of the poet Petrarca and other great artists, among them Piero della Francesca, Masaccio, Michelangelo, Luca Signorelli, Pietro da Cortona and Vasari. They all left a mark of their creativity and genius not only in Arezzo, but also in different towns around. A sequence of artistic itineraries, from the one focused on Piero della Francesca, to the one devoted to della Robbia brothers. This gives the visitor a chance to admire paintings, sculptures and art even in the smallest towns of the area. In this land, nature and human intervention have joined to create an always surprising harmonious continuum.
